The COOEE Festival is a modern-day ceremony bringing community together to celebrate the oldest surviving culture in the world!

 

The word “COOEE” originates from the Dharug Nations language and was typically used as a calling to “COME HERE”.

 

Since the first COOEE Festival in 2019, the event has grown larger each year with performances by Jessica Mauboy, Uncle Archie Roach, Kobie Dee, and Dan Sultan. The event showcases traditional cultural dances, a fully catered Elders hub, cultural workshops, various kids activities, a variety of food trucks, and over 60 stallholders including local service providers and retailers selling merchandise.

 

Following the unfortunate cancellation of COOEE Festival in 2025, we are proud to welcome the community back in 2026 for a renewed celebration of culture, connection and resilience. COOEE Festival provides a meaningful opportunity for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to come together, celebrate the world's oldest living culture, share knowledge and strengthen relationships built on respect, understanding and truth. Through music, dance, storytelling and cultural experiences, the festival continues to inspire reconciliation by creating genuine connections between communities and celebrating the strength and richness of Aboriginal cultures.

 

Even though the COOEE Festival is commonly known as the biggest Aboriginal event in Western Sydney, it is organised by a small, dedicated team of Link-Up (NSW) staff members who work hard all year round to ensure a successful day for the community.
